Welcome to AP World History

The purpose of the AP World History course is to develop in students a greater understanding of global processess and interactions between different types of human societies. Focusing on global experience from the first civilizations to the present day, the course builds on an understanding of cultural, institutional, and technological advances that along with geography help to explain the human condition today.

Specific themes organize the course and consistent attention is given to contacts among societies that form the core of world history as a field of study.  The AP World History course prepares students to take the AP World History exam, which is offered every year in May.  By achieving a successful score on the AP World History exam, students may receive credit and/or advanced placement for course work in college.  For a student to receive weighted credit for this class, he/she must complete the AP World History exam at the end of the year.

For the purpose of organization, the course content will be divided into the following periods:

Foundations: c. 8000CE -600
